The RACV Pre-Purchase and Comprehensive Vehicle Inspections check your vehicle beyond simply ensuring it meets VicRoads’ standards, unlike a regular roadworthy inspection.

Our RACV Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspections will check the vehicle over for immediate mechanical faults, making it suitable for second-hand car buyers. The Comprehensive Vehicle Inspections will examine your vehicle in greater depth, finding less immediate problems that will eventually require repairs; this is best suited for vehicles just coming out of warranty. Both of these inspections also come with a 30-day mechanical guarantee for RACV members, the details for which you can find on the RACV website.

The inspection will provide you with an easy to read inspection report, breaking down potential vehicle issues into Observations (which don’t strictly require action at all), Early Attention issues (which require preventative repairs before they become more serious) and Immediate Attention issues (which require immediate repairs). Your report will also contain a straight-forward Traffic Light Guide, which will either give you the green light to go ahead with a purchase or sale, or let you know whether hidden expenses might play a factor in the sale.

Roadworthy Checks

Before you sell, transfer ownership, or re-register your vehicle for the road, it will need to be deemed roadworthy by a VicRoads licensed vehicle tester, to ensure your vehicle meets the standards required by Victorian road law. The VicRoads roadworthy inspection covers a range of components for which poor maintenance or wear and tear are detrimental to the safety of you and your car.

Our team can conduct roadworthy inspections on all makes and models of passenger and light commercial vehicles, including LPG gas powered vehicles. We’ll either issue your vehicle with a clean bill of health and a Roadworthy Certificate, or provide you with a detailed list of issues your vehicle must have repaired before it can be deemed roadworthy.

Personal Property Registration Checks

The Personal Property Securities Register is a national online register that can provide information to help protect consumers when they are buying personal property such as cars, boats or works of art. If you check the PPSR before you buy, you can find out if the personal property you are buying has a security interest attached to it. This is important because if you buy property subject to a security interest, it is possible that the person or entity with the security interest will repossess it.

Registration Checks

The VicRoads Registration Check is a service that can be used to confirm a vehicle’s details and registration status. This check is for cars, motorcycles, trucks, trailers and caravans recorded on the Victorian Vehicles Register. It’s not a national check. You’ll be provided with the following vehicle information:

  • VIN/chassis number, engine number, make, colour, body type, year of manufacture
  • registration status (current, expired, suspended or cancelled)
  • details of a Fines Victoria vehicle sanction (if applicable)
  • Visit the Registration check service website.
